Intelligence Resources

 

International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts - The goal of IALEIA is to shed light on the role of intelligence analysis by developing international competancy standards, creating training and curricula, and  disseminating information on analytical techniques and methods. This site provides a File Library containing free full text publications. Members of IALEIA may also access issues of Intelscope and the organization's peer reviewed journal.  

Law Enforcement Intelligence Guide - This full-text guide assists law enforcement agencies in developing and enhancing their intelligence capacity. Topics addressed include the intelligence process, intelligence requirements and threat assessment.

Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Units - The criminal intelligence standards established by LEIU "are recognized by both law enforcement and civil libertarians as creating a proper balance between the needs of law enforcement and the constitutional privacy rights of individuals." The links and publications tab on this Web site enables users to access full-text documents, including Integrated Intelligence and Crime Analysis for law enforcement leaders and the National Criminal Intelligence Sharing Plan.

Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive (ONCIX) - This agency is part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. It is responsible for the development and production of various reports and policies, including annual national counterintelligence strategies and priorities for counterintelligence collection, investigations and operations. The publications section of this site also includes links to posters and brochures published by ONCIX.

FAS Intelligence Resource Program - Maintained by the Federation of American Scientists, this site contains up to date intelligence news, intelligence threat assessments, and Congressional reports and hearings on intelligence. Documents are listed by date of publication. Also included are links to worldwide intelligence agencies and intelligence budget data. Users may also subscribe to the newsletter Secrecy News.

The Intelligence Report - Published by the Southern Poverty Law Center, this award winning periodical monitors extremism and the radical right in the United States. Users may browse issues and access full-text articles from 1999 to the present.


General Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice Resources

 

Uniform Crime Reports - Published by the FBI, this annual publication is a compilation  of crime statistics for the nation, individual states, and individual agencies. Data includes statistics on violent crime, property crime, arrest tables, and police employee tables. Records from 1995 to the present are available. Users may download compressed files for each year. Annual files are also available for Hate Crime Statistics and Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA).

FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin - Issues of this monthly publication are available from 1999 to the present. 

Bureau of Justice Statistics - BJS is part of the Office of Justice Programs in the US Department of Justice. The agency's goal is to collect, analyze, and publish information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the justice system. The home page contains links to statistical information on many topics, including law enforcement, corrections, and the criminal records system. Users may also access full text BJS publications from this site.

National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) - This site is useful for anyone with an interest in crime, public safety and victim assistance. Administered by the Office of Justice Programs at the US Department of Justice, this site includes a topical index, a searchable article database (abstracts and full text), and listings of upcoming justice events. A weekly accessions list is also available.

Police Foundation - This web site's electronic library includes Police Foundation reports and research briefs on topics such as homeland security, immigration, and personnel performance. Of particular interest is the Ideas in American Policing series.

PoliceOne - PoliceOne offers a secure site for the exchange of information between LE officers and departments across the country. Features include current news feeds (searchable by topic and date), video footage, and an active community forum.

Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics - This is a collection of more than 100 data sources on various aspects of criminal justice in the United States. Supported by the US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, it contains over 1000 tables which are divided into 6 topical sections: 1) Criminal Justice Characteristics; 2) Public Opinion; 3) Crime & Victims; 4) Arrests & Seizures; 5) Courts, Prosecution & Sentencing; and 6) Parole, Jails & Prisons. The tables are easily searchable through an index.

National Archive of Criminal Justice Data - The NACJD promotes research in criminal justice and criminology through the preservation and sharing of resources. The site includes 16 individual data resources, including National Juvenile Corrections data and the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Users may browse by topic or search by subject and keyword.

Responder Knowledge Base (RKB) - This mission of this site is to provide first responders with equipment-related information. A searchable publications and reference database are available.


Community Policing Resources

COPS - The US Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services maintains this web site. The Resource Information Center (RIC) includes publications on many community policing topics, including school safety, immigrant communities, and emergency preparedness.  

National Center for Community Policing Publications - Maintained by Michigan State University's School of Criminal Justice, this site includes a series of community policing articles, an executive summary series and a collection of archived newsletters.


Gang Enforcement Resources

National Gang Center - Funded in part by a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, this site offers up to date information on gangs and anti-gang programs. This site is a goldmine of full text publications addressing gang prevention, intervention and suppression. In addition, users may access information on gang legislation, the Parents' Guide to Gangs, and the results from the National Youth Gang Surveys from 1995 to 2007.

National Gang Crime Research Center - The NGCRC researches and disseminates accurate and reliable information about gangs and the gang problem in the United States. This site provides users with an extensive collection of full text reports and gang profiles.

International Latino Gang Investigators Association - In an effort to increase the awareness of Latino gangs in the United States, this non-profit organization offers users an extensive article archive. In addition, law enforcement officials and criminal justice professionals can register to access a secure, members only listbot which provides regional intelligence on gang activity.
