(Oklahoma City, Okla.) The Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT) has received $2.2 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) /Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to train the 850,000 law enforcement officers throughout the United States.
MIPT is the centerpiece of the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative (NSI), a national program which trains officers in identifying terrorism precursors.
The one year award from the DHS/FEMA Grant Programs Directorate also allows MIPT to continue offering its trademark program InCOPSM (Information Collection on Patrol). InCOP focuses on training in information collection to improve the quality, quantity and timeliness of reporting by the line officer.
MIPT is poised to deliver training to police departments such as Boston, Dallas, Kansas City and Minneapolis.
In Oklahoma, MIPT has trained nearly 1,500 officers in the last six months. Patrol divisions from half a dozen departments have participated in MIPT’s course offerings, including the Oklahoma City Police Department, Norman, Edmond, Stillwater, Midwest City and deputies with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.
MIPT is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security training partner serving the nation’s 850,000 uniformed officers and law enforcement leadership. Our mission is to enhance the public safety through training, professional development and education.
