Thank you for visiting the Memorial Institute for
the Prevention of Terrorism. We believe you will find the MIPT website the
most informative and vital in understanding many of the issues surrounding
international and domestic terrorism and in developing appropriate responses
should an act occur. As the Executive Director, I have the privilege of
working with some of the world's most dedicated thinkers on
preparing for and preventing terrorism throughout the world.
MIPT was established upon the experience of the bombing of Oklahoma City's Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995. Those who survived, those who responded and family members of those lost believed it important to create an institute which would actively engage in research and study as well as programs and reporting. This ensures policy makers and leaders have the fullest amount of information in their hands in determining how to prevent future attacks and respond if necessary. That is how MIPT's mission statement came into being: Countering Terrorism with Knowledge.
